THE HANDSTAND

AUGUST-OCTOBER2009

LETTER TO THE HANDSTAND, TO ALL READERS:

Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Kuala Lumpur Foundation To Criminalise War, I am pleased to inform you that we are organizing a war crimes Commission and Tribunal on 30th and 31st October, 2009. The event will be held at the Tun Dr Ismail Hall, Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur. The Commission will hear testimonies by the war victims of war crimes committed in Iraq since the US-led invasion in 2003. The Tribunal will hear and decide on the application for an advisory opinion filed by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission to determine if a Head of State or Government can unilaterally exempt itself from complying with any provisions of any International Treaties/Conventions duly ratified by the State without first abrogating the relevant treaty/convention.

The Commission and Tribunal will be preceded and coincide with a conference organised by the Perdana Global Peace Organisation (PGPO), themed “Criminalise War” from 28th up to 31st October 2009. The conference will be attended by the Chairman of PGPO and former Prime Minister, YABhg Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad who will also deliver the keynote address. During the conference, there will also a war crimes exhibition highlighting the destruction caused by the invasion in Iraq, including instruments of torture used by the occupying military forces there.

The Commission and Tribunal are open to public at no charge, while the entrance fee for the exhibition is on a donation basis. Seats are available on a first come first served basis.

Please email your details to joana.y.chan@zicorporate.com.my or khairul.bariah@zicorporate.com.my before October 21, 2009 if you would like to attend the Commission and Tribunal. You may also contact Joana Chan or Khairul Bariah at 03 2094 0999 if you have any queries.

We look forward to see you there.

Warm regards,
